Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a method of exfoliating the top layer of skin to reveal healthier, younger-looking skin.

What is Facial Dermabrasion?

With a rotating abrasive tool, the outermost layers of skin are removed to reveal smoother, healthier skin below. Dermabrasion is a medical procedure typically performed on the face by a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist specializing in skin care. The outermost layers of skin on the face are removed using a spinning instrument during a minimally invasive procedure. Wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin flaws can be treated with dermabrasion. Also, compared to other methods like a facelift, recovery time is shorter after these operations.

Dermabrasion Procedure

To keep you comfortable during the procedure, you will get anesthesia; however, the dosage will vary depending on the nature of your condition. Most surgical procedures only require a small amount of anesthesia, but if your surgeon needs to work on a large area or if the process takes a long time, they may give you a sedative to help you relax.

During dermabrasion, the area of skin to be treated will be held taut by an assistant as the surgeon moves an electrical instrument called a dermabrader across the skin. The tool has a rough surface to help peel off the epidermis and is small and motorized. A circular dermabrader is used on larger areas of skin, while a micro tip is used on more precise measurements.

The surgeon will apply a moist dressing right after the procedure to speed up recovery. These dressings are changed at the patient’s next appointment, usually the very next day. In about two weeks, you’ll be back to business as usual.
